AMERSFOORT – A 28-year-old man from Amersfoort is suspected of attempted manslaughter and the extremely violent robbery of his mother. At the end of last year, L. van V. would have tried to strangle her. He allegedly assaulted her with a bag over her head. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this was accompanied by horrific death threats. He then withdrew thousands of euros from her account.
This was announced today at the first introductory session on the case in the Utrecht court. The Public Prosecution Service suspects the Amersfoorter, among other things, of attempted manslaughter on his mother and of theft with violence, extortion and threats. The suspect, who has his birthday today, did not want to say anything about the suspicions in court himself.
Strangulation attempt and death threat
According to the public prosecutor, the son took his mother in a stranglehold on November 27 last year and pulled a scarf tightly around her neck, so that she could no longer breathe. He allegedly tied her wrists, arms, ankles and legs with tie-raps and tape and put a bag over her head.
While he punched her in the face, he allegedly threatened his mother with death. “I’ll kill you. How do you want to die? With a bullet?” he is said to have yelled. And: “Should that bullet go in your head or in your stomach? In your stomach it takes three hours before you are dead. If you call the police, you will die”.
The suspect would then have taken the bank cards, telephone, car and house keys from his mother. Using her bank details, according to the Public Prosecution Service, he transferred 5,500 euros from her account to his own account and also withdrew another 500 euros in cash with her bank card.
shut up
It was not clear during the hearing today what the background of the horrific incident is. The suspect has been examined by experts for possible psychological disorders, but the reports on this are not yet ready. The Amersfoorter has so far kept silent about the suspicions.
Even on his birthday, he did not want to say anything about it to the judges today. He will only do that during the substantive hearing of the case, he said. It is scheduled for May 17. The man may still make a statement to the police before that time.
