A foundation that is committed to keeping victims of domestic violence and their pets together is the Mendoo Foundation, formerly Stay van my Animal. “Pets should not be a barrier to leaving an unsafe situation,” says director Rianne Haaijema of the foundation. If shelter is not possible, the foundation arranges childminders to care for the animals. In Amersfoort we are now examining whether more is possible at existing reception locations.
