In addition to the Animal Welfare Councilor, Amersfoort also employs an animal welfare advisor. She is currently working on the first animal welfare memorandum, which sets out the municipality’s animal welfare ambitions. This will soon be submitted to the municipal council. “The interests of animals are of course given a prominent place in that memorandum,” says Van Lammeren. The councilor says he is also working on an ecological map that shows the bottlenecks for animals in the Amersfoort area, with the aim of creating a better design.
