“We had to wait a long time, yes,” laughs Willem Verdonck, head of animal care at the zoo. Five years ago was the last time a small flamingo could be welcomed. The Chilean flamingo cub is still light gray and tiny, but soon the animal will stand neatly on one leg in the water among the rest of the colony.
