In the United States, people shopped for a record amount on Black Friday. According to analytics company Adobe Analytics, Americans spent 10.8 billion dollars on online shopping during the day.

This is an all-time record amount, and an increase of 10.2 percent from last year’s Black Friday.

For comparison, for example, the entire Finnish state’s 2024 was around 92.98 billion dollars at Saturday’s exchange rate.

The most sold toys, jewelry, household appliances, hair and skin care products, clothes and home electronics were sold during Friday.

According to Adobe Analytics, online shopping is not over yet: Saturday’s spending is expected to be around $5.6 billion and Sunday’s spending is expected to be around $5.6 billion.

The icing on the cake is Monday’s Cyber Monday deals, on which the analytics company predicts that Americans will spend another 13.2 billion dollars.

If Adobe Analytics’ forecast is correct, Americans will spend about 35 billion dollars on online shopping in four days. This would be more than a third of the annual budget of the Finnish state.

According to Adobe Analytics, the record sums do not tell about prices raised by inflation, but about increased demand. According to the analytics company, for example, sales of home electronics have been in a downward trend for 26 months straight, but now the discounts got consumers moving.
