American gymnastics legend Mary Lou Retton is fighting for her life

Retton became the first American woman to win all-around gold at the Olympics. She did it at home in Los Angeles in 1984 as a 16-year-old.

Daughter Mckenna Kelley is praying for the mother and appealing for donations for the precious medical treatment. Mary Lou Retton lacks health insurance.

“A process day by day”

“It will be a process that we have to take day by day and we hope that you can respect her privacy because we want to keep it between her and our family right now. She has been treated by the best of the best doctors here,” writes oldest daughter Shayla Kelley Schrepfer on Instagram.

In addition to the all-around gold, Retton also won two silvers and two bronzes in Los Angeles when she was in high school.

Retton retired just two years after her success at the 1986 Games and was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1997
