Ameli, the digital health insurance portal, will be modernized a little with the arrival of a long-awaited function allowing you to provide missing documents more quickly via the Internet. A taste of the sequel?

Any attempt to modernize access to public services through digital technology is more than welcome, especially for the online health insurance portal – better known to the general public as Ameli. Accessible free of charge from a web browser, but also an application on smartphone and tablet, it welcomed a new service a year ago to facilitate the reimbursement of treatment carried out abroad. The Government seems to want to continue its momentum since it announced, on the official site of the French administrationthe introduction “current 2023” a new function allowing the user to send a document that is missing from his file from his online space. A good way to optimize and speed up the processing of requests!

Health insurance: a new service to send missing documents online

This new service will be aimed at all users who need to send a file in order to access a service or medical care. If they are missing a document, Ameli will contact them by e-mail and suggest that they connect to her personal space in order to send their supporting document in digital version – this should give rise to new phishing ideas. This saves them from having to go to the counter or send the document by post.

Be careful however, as the communication will be done by e-mail, it is absolutely necessary that the e-mail address registered with the Health Insurance services is valid, and do not hesitate to modify it if necessary by contacting the telephone platform at 36 46 – because it is still not possible to change your email address directly online.

Ameli: personal data secure?

This new function will therefore be added to the many other services that the online health insurance portal already offers. Currently, Ameli allows you to view your current and past reimbursements as well as your allowances paid, to order a new vital card, to declare its loss or theft, to modify your bank and postal details, to declare a birth, to request or renew their complementary health insurance, to send a care sheet, and to apply for a European health insurance card (EHIC).

However, this announcement renews concerns about the security of information that users of the site provide. Indeed, Ameli had been the subject of a large-scale hack in June 2022 – the platform is particularly attractive to hackers, insofar as it contains personal data of tens of millions of policyholders –, and this was far from the first! In addition, it is regularly the victim of phishing campaigns. In recent months, many text messages have been circulating asking victims to renew their expired vital card, which allows them to steal their personal and banking data. And this kind of technique is all the more effective since some users are not familiar with the methods adopted by cybercriminals. In all cases – including when it is necessary to send a missing document online – you should never, ever, click on a link sent by e-mail or message, but rather go directly to the website. official.
