Ameli, the digital Health Insurance portal, is due for a major overhaul. The platform becomes more modern, easier to use and more eco-responsible. Navigation is greatly simplified!

Any attempt to modernize access to public services through digital technology is more than welcome, especially for the Health Insurance online portal – better known to the general public under the name Ameli. Accessible free of charge from a web browser, but also via a dedicated application for smartphones and tablets, it is one of the most visited public service platforms in France, with 23 million visits each month. At the start of 2023, it was modernized a little with the arrival of a highly anticipated function allowing you to send a missing document to your file from your online space (see our article). The Government seems to want to continue its momentum since Health Insurance announced, on his website, get a facelift in order to offer simplified navigation, adapt to mobile consultation – more than 60% of users use their smartphone to get there – and improve its carbon footprint. The new version of the site has been deployed since June 12.

Health Insurance: a more intuitive and eco-responsible interface

Health Insurance highlights “improved design and simplified navigation for a better visitor experience”. The first big change concerns the home page. First, the news carousel has been removed. HAS right of the screen, an imposing blue block entitled “How to do it” appears, bringing together the main procedures for French people: the certificate of rights, sending a care sheet, change of address, card Vitale and the European Health Insurance Card. They were previously located further down on the home page. Note that the navigation tabs at the top of the page have been removed, which simplifies the rendering.

At the top left of the page, a drawer menu – the three blue lines – replaces tabbed navigation and allows you to expand different areas, such as “Inform you” or “Your cash register”. Another welcome change: the Ameli site finally has a real “Connect” button, located at the top right, which is much more visible than on the old home page. Generally speaking, the information is arranged in a more airy way, the tones of blue and pink have been softened and the corners rounded, which offers a less aggressive and much more modern look. Ameli also worked on what he calls a “mobile first” design, offering navigation and display adapted to smartphone screens.

Ameli also worked on what he calls a “mobile first” design, offering navigation and display adapted to smartphone screens. These changes are based on eco-design which aims to reduce the environmental impact of Ameli.fr. Indeed, digital technology currently represents 2.5% of the carbon footprint in France, compared to 2% for waste. “This awareness of the environmental footprint of digital technology and the growth of mobile consultations are leading the ameli.fr site to get a makeover”, explains Health Insurance. Hence the removal of carousels, the use of a lighter font, the limitation of the use of videos or the reduction in the weight of images. A great initiative!
