AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.0 technology will increase framerate without requiring special machine learning hardware.
AMD has announced AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition 2022, the latest member of its software suite. Along with that, it has announced the next generation of its popular and widely adopted AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling technology, taking the gaming experience to a new level of performance, responsiveness and visual fidelity.
AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.0 announced
The updated AMD Software release brings advanced and innovative features that will unlock the full potential of gaming experiences on AMD powered systems. The new version features AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) technology, a new driver-based upscaling technology that delivers increased performance with high-quality visuals and is compatible with thousands of games. This update also includes an updated AMD Link app that allows users to turn their gaming PC into a personal cloud-based PC and host local multiplayer games with friends connecting from virtually anywhere. AMD Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) also now includes support for enhancing images for video playback and web applications in addition to games.
Expected to be available in Q2 2022, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.0 technology offers similar or better image quality than native resolution without requiring special machine learning hardware, while using temporal data and optimized anti-aliasing to increase frame rates in supported games. Like the first version of AMD FSR, the AMD FSR 2.0 version works with many different models of AMD and competing GPUs to deliver incredible performance and image quality.

AMD Adrenaline Edition is designed to deliver fast, responsive gameplay and incredible visuals for an unmatched gaming experience. Combined with familiar features such as AMD FreeSync™ technology, AMD Radeon Anti-Lag and AMD Radeon Boost, AMD Adrenalin Edition comes with a host of new and enhanced functions, including:
- AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) Technology – RSR is an in-driver resolution upscaling feature built on the same algorithm as AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution technology. It offers near native resolution and increased performance in games running in dedicated full-screen mode on discrete graphics based on AMD RDNA™ architecture, and is compatible with thousands of games.
- AMD Link – The updated AMD Link Play feature now allows up to four users to connect from an Android or Windows-based computer, phone, tablet or TV to an AMD Radeon graphics supported computer to play local multiplayer games. The app also offers customizable hotkeys that allow gamers to use their device as a secondary control panel for their PC. To invite a wider range of users and hardware to a personal game cloud, AMD Link is now available from the Microsoft store and can be downloaded as a standalone app on non-AMD-based PCs.
- Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) – Bringing life and clarity to in-game visuals that have been softened with upscaling and post-processing effects, the latest version of RIS can now be used to enhance visuals in one-click video playback and other productivity applications.
- Fast Download – Updating AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition directly from the application saves your time and reduces the driver download size, and only downloads and installs the files that need updating to the PC.
- Improved Notifications – Provides users with a clearer snapshot of what key features are enabled or disabled when they launch a game.
Next Generation Upgrade Technology
AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 marks the next step in AMD’s original popular and widely adopted open-source, cross-platform upscaling technology that is currently supported or will be available in over 80 games. FSR 2.0 increases frame rates in supported games by using previous frame rate data to provide similar or better native image quality at all resolutions. Delivering incredible image quality without the need for specialized machine learning hardware, FSR 2.0 supports a wide variety of graphics products and platforms, including AMD and select competitive solutions.
