AMD has denied pre-CES performance claims about its Radeon RX 9070 RDNA 4 GPUs. The company announced that new graphics cards will offer higher performance.
AMD stated that the Radeon RX 9070 RDNA 4 GPU leaks that appeared before CES 2025 are not true. Frank Azor, Chief Architect of the company’s Gaming Division, announced that early performance claims are false and that the next generation GPUs will deliver higher raster and ray tracing (RT) performance than expected. Azor shared this statement in an interview with PC World, adding that AMD’s delay in the introduction of RDNA 4 GPUs is part of its strategy to evaluate the moves of rival NVIDIA.
Radeon RX 9070 RDNA 4 Performance Expectations
Frank Azor stated that the RX 9070 XT performance leaks released before CES were “misleading”. Previous reports have suggested that the RX 9070 XT offers a slight performance increase over the Radeon RX 7900 GRE or comes close to the NVIDIA RTX 4080 with a 5% difference. However, Azor stated that these claims are not true and that the RX 9070 XT will perform at a much higher level.
The RX 9000 series with RDNA 4 architecture comes with significant improvements in raster and ray tracing performance. Azor stated that the RX 9070 XT will directly compete with the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti models. He also said that the price of the RX 9070 XT will remain under $1000 and will be launched with a price tag close to NVIDIA’s 5070 series.
No official information has yet been shared about the pricing of AMD’s new generation RX 9070 XT cards. However, leaked details show that the card will be in the $500-550 range. The information that a retailer in the Philippines lists the RX 9070 XT for $ 529 indicates that the reference model can be sold for under $ 500. AMD’s competition with NVIDIA will continue, especially in ray tracing technology. However, AMD aims to take the lead in raster performance.
AMD is preparing to take a big step in the gaming world with its new RDNA 4 architecture. Radeon RX 9070 XT is expected to be a strong competitor against NVIDIA in terms of performance and pricing. AMD’s strategy aims to provide more affordable and powerful cards for users while intensifying competition. As the release date of the RDNA 4 series approaches, excitement increases.
