Ambulance nurse Jonah in Gällivare has resigned: “Gives us no choice”

From the first of October, there will only be one ambulance in operation in the evenings and nights in Gällivare.

– No one really wants to resign, but we are stuck with a schedule that gives us no choice, says nurse Jonah Senften.

Duplication of work shifts

The EU’s new work directive means that the ambulance staff can no longer work 24-hour shifts. There will be more work shifts and less long-term leave.

The working week has also become longer because scheduled meal breaks were introduced a few weeks ago.

“Worse time for rest”

The staff have given suggestions for various solutions – but they feel that no one in charge is listening.

– I think it will be a significantly worse time for rest and recovery. When we have our 24-hour shifts, which we have worked with for many years, we always have 24 hours off between shifts and now we will have 11-12 hours.

Hear nurse Jonah Senften talk about why they resign – and what the consequences will be.
