Many Philip Smart TV owners have sworn by Ambilight for years. The Philips televisions use smart LEDs to project the colors of the screen onto the wall in real time. This expands the screen and creates a great mood lighting. This is not only great for exciting cinema films, but also for sports, gaming or concerts with light shows.
Unfortunately, no other TV manufacturer offers televisions with comparable technology. Philips itself has a solution for retrofitting in its portfolio, but it costs more than 300 euros. One cheap alternative is the Govee DreamView T1 Pro TV Backlight*, which offers a comparable experience for a significantly lower price. Your TV must be between 55 and 65 inches.
For a short time there is the Smart TV backlight from Govee with camera and two light bars again a good deal cheaper. Compared to the RRP you even save 45 euros. You can get the price of 94.99 euros by activating the 5 euro coupon on the Amazon product page.

Here’s how the half-price Ambilight experience works
The included camera is placed above or below the TV so that it is pointing at the screen. After being calibrated via the app, the camera can analyze the colors and send them to the LED light strip that is placed on the back of the TV. With the supplied smart light bars, the light atmosphere can be further distributed in the room.
The construction is pleasantly simple: The LED strip is attached to the back of the TV with the supplied clips or adhesives. The light bars are placed in the room on two pedestals. Then the camera is positioned and the setup is complete.

Govee’s Ambilight alternative can actually compete with Philips
Ambilight for a fraction of what Philips charges for it? That sounds too good to be true. In fact, Govee’s solution doesn’t need to hide. The DreamView T1 Pro backlight * can be individually adjusted using the extensive app, achieves a very high level of brightness if desired and, thanks to the camera, can be used independently of any connections on the TV.
The Philips Hue Play system, for example, only works via external devices connected via HDMI. When it comes to internal TV functions, the Philips retrofit system is at a disadvantage. That said, if you’re watching Netflix directly from your Smart TV, you might want to check out Govee’s alternative.
What makes the Philips Hue Play system better
Even if the Ambilight from Govee works very well, there are still a few details that are better with Philips. Goveee has a slight but hardly noticeable lag when changing colors. In addition, the color reproduction is sometimes somewhat imprecise or sometimes wrong. This is due to reflections on the black parts of the screen.
If you don’t want to compromise on accuracy and color representation, you should take a look at the Philips Hue Play system. To get into the Philips system you need one sync box* and one light streaks *.
