An ambassador crisis broke out between the new government and President Andrzej Duda in Poland. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski decided to terminate the duties of ambassadors in 50 countries today, and that the names proposed to the embassy by the previous government and awaiting approval by the relevant countries were withdrawn.
THE PRESIDENT OPPOSED
Following the ministry’s statement, President Duda said, “No ambassador can be dismissed and no new ambassador can be appointed without the signature of the President.”

Responding to Duda’s statement, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, “If there is no other possibility, of course we will call the ambassadors back to the country. Chargé d’affaires will serve in the embassies in question until the President changes his attitude or until the President changes. Tusk said that they have to create and develop a loyal team dependent on the Polish state that will carry out the affairs of the state in all Polish Embassies.
The next presidential elections in Poland will be held in May 2025. Duda’s term as President for the second time will end in August 2025.
