Amazon’s victory in Italy against fake reviews

Amazons victory in Italy against fake reviews

(Finance) – Victory for Amazon in Italy in the fight against fake reviewsfollowing the sentence issued by the Court of Milan against malicious people who attempted to facilitate the publication of 5-star ratings.
“The sentence, the first issued by a civil court in Italy against a fake review site – underlines a note from Amazon – has led to the immediate closure of the Realreviews.it site and prohibited its manager from carrying out similar activities in the future”. The court’s ruling is consequence of legal action taken by Amazon against Realreviews.itwhich revealed how the site offered potential reviewers a full refund on products they purchased if they posted and provided evidence of a 5-star review.

The court ruled that the owner of the site acted in violation of unfair competition laws, thus causing harm to both Amazon and its customers. The legal action brought in Italy is part of Amazon’s broader and ongoing effort to combat fake reviews globally. Last year, Amazon took action against 44 wrongdoers in Europe, bringing 9 new lawsuits in Spain, Germany and France.

“The ruling of the Court of Milan marks an important milestone in our fight to protect customers from fake reviews. Our goal is to ensure that every review on the Amazon store is trustworthy and reflects the real experiences of consumers,” he said Claire O’Donnell, Director of Selling Partner Trust & Store Identity at Amazon. “By taking legal action against these individuals, Amazon is sending a clear message that it intends to prosecute bad actors.”
