In Amazon’s comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing, no laughter is allowed for six hours. In the end, there was only one person left from the participating stars who donated the profit of 50,000 euros to charity. The season 4 finale is an exception: for the first time, two celebrities lasted until the end of the countdown.
The way there was one agonizing, overloaded act of desperation, who showed the format with Michael “Bully” Herbig as host its own limits. Changes should urgently be introduced for LOL after this development.
In the finale, LOL season 4 is just exhausting
Towards the end of the latest LOL season, Kurt Krömer and Michael Mittermeier are left in a duel against each other. Both struggle with one life each to not have to laugh. It soon becomes clear that they didn’t make it to the final by accident. Both are proving to be extremely stubborn competitors on the home stretch of the Amazon series.
In the last 10 or so minutes, LOL season 4 will start not only a burden for Krömer and Mittermeier. The comedy format desperately throws everything around to snatch at least a faint smile from the finalists.
In addition to the usual laughing legend Martin Sieber as a guest, towards the end of the LOL season a live audience will be shown, this time with two women from France with a particularly bizarre laugh. In addition, Hazel Brugger and Max Giermann stand behind Krömer and Mittermeier, who only move their lips, and take over their voices, while in front of them, Bully repeatedly bursts out laughing himself.
Even the description sounds like chaos. In fact, comedy sensory overload makes LOL a first strenuous test of patience with hysterical gag and laughter background noise.
LOL should finally get more unpredictable and surprising in Season 5
The Amazon production proves here at the latest that the concept has reached a dead end after 4 seasons. Turning the comedy dial to the max and hoping for more is more leads to the opposite effect: exhaustion.
LOL would have the show concept before the season 4 finale break up and change to give the series a breath of fresh air. Firing blindly with gags and bursts of laughter is a new low instead.
Just an idea: How about all the stars in Season 5 only get one life instead of two to make the game more exciting and risky from the start? The show should put the finalists in a minimalist duel send. Both stars look into each other’s eyes until one or the other laughs, completely without any kind of gag attack in the background. A game like that broke everyone in the end. And it would definitely prevent brittle paralysis like the season 4 finale.
