Josh Brolin can currently be seen on the big screen in the science fiction epic Dune: Part Two. In just a few weeks you will be able to see him again on your home screens. After a break of two years, the unusual time travel western series Outer Range is returning.
Amazon’s original series mixes modern western drama à la Yellowstone with lots of sci-fi mysteries. Prime Video has now announced the start date for season 2, which is intended to resolve a major point of criticism.
Josh Brolin as Time Traveling Cowboy: Outer Range returns for season 2 on Amazon
The Amazon series Outer Range focuses on the family of rancher Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), whose family has been going through difficult times since the disappearance of his daughter Rebecca and who has to protect his land in Wyoming from an enemy family. However, there is also a mysterious black one Hole at the edge of his property that can break the boundaries of time and space.

Josh Brolin in Outer Range Season 2
Season 1 of Outer Range asked a lot of questions and provided few answers when it came to the time travel mysteries sprinkled in. The new episodes are intended to correct this and focus more on the sci-fi aspect. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Brolin reveals that even he annoyed by the lack of clues and answers was:
It makes perfect sense to me why we sometimes digressed. We had some people say, ‘You’ve just got to trust’… and I said, yeah, bullshit. We need to know. We are the storytellers and we create the mystery.
A lot will be different in the second season. Series creator Brian Watkins is no longer involved in the production. Charles Murray, who has over 20 years of screenwriting experience and most recently produced the Netflix series True Story, was appointed as the new showrunner. Dune star Josh Brolin also directed an episode of the new season himself.
When does Outer Range Season 2 start on Amazon Prime Video?
Outer Range season 2 starts on May 16, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video. The total of 7 new episodes will all be available to watch on launch day. In addition to Josh Brolin, the well-known cast also includes Imogen Poots (Green Room) and Lili Taylor (Conjuring).
But the series isn’t finished yet, as Charles Murray suggests: “Josh said to me: I have ideas for the third season.”
