Not only Netflix can radically sell series. Amazon has now too two series canceled the already ordered 2nd season and the narratives abruptly ceased with it: a sci-fi darling *and a film remake in series form*. You can find out which series are involved and the reasons for the surprising cancellations below:
1. Amazon Prime cancels season 2 of sci-fi series Peripherals
With periphery (In English: The Peripheral) Amazon filmed the eponymous sci-fi novel* by William Gibson in 2022. In it, gaming talent Flynne Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz) is recruited by an ominous organization to travel to a threatening future via headset. But the longer her stay in the alternative reality lasts, the more the young woman questions reality.

Moviepilot’s sci-fi expert Andrea hailed the complex narrative with its hard-hitting action from Westworld producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan best sci-fi series 2022. In February 2023, Periphery received a Season 2 extension. This continuation has now been withdrawn by Amazon, Variety reports.
If you want to know how the periphery ends, you have to read the other books in William Gibson’s so-called jackpot trilogy, of which the second volume called Agency * was recently published. Meanwhile, the sci-fi series isn’t alone in being dropped from Amazon.
2. Amazon is also canceling the continuation of the sports series A class of its own
The second series, which is now not getting a (already ordered) second season from Amazon, is about A class of its own. A reboot of the ’90s film of the same name, starring Tom Hanks, the sports comedy follows the emergence of a women’s baseball league during World War II.

A League of Their Own is based on true events. Because male professional athletes are scarce after the war, several talented women suddenly get the chance to show the nation their skills on the field.
Why were the two Amazon series canceled so suddenly?
According to Variety sources, the current Hollywood strike the screenwriters and actors played a significant part in Amazon’s decision to part ways with Periphery Season 2. Even if the Prime-loved sci-fi series had returned to production soon, it might not have returned until 2025, a long 3-year gap to Season 1.
The high costs the elaborate genre narrative may also have been a factor in Amazon’s cancellation. In a class of its own series creator Abbi Jacobson spoke out strongly against blaming her canceled show on the strike in an Instagram post, even as she only hinted at behind-the-scenes troubles:
