Anyone who has an Amazon subscription to Prime Video and is fond of fantasy material will soon have a new series title to add to their watchlist. After The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the streaming service has ordered another fantasy format with novels.
It’s heading towards Asia, but with inspiration from them evil queen from Snow White. You know, the one with the poisoned apple and the magic mirror.
Amazon orders new fantasy series: The Rise of the Empress saga is to be made into a film
A series adaptation called Rise of the Empress was commissioned, based on Julie C. Dao’s book series of the same name from the last decade, the individual volumes of which are called Forest of a Thousand Lanterns, Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix and Song of the Crimson Flower. According to TVLine, Crystal Liu will serve as showrunner, while James Wong will direct and produce. Both previously worked on the horror anthology American Horror Story.

But what is Rise of the Empress all about? The setting is a fictional Asian kingdomwhich is at war. The only hope for peace is the political wedding of the heir to the throne with a princess from one of the enemy countries. Which candidate will it be? A fight for the prince’s hand begins. At the same time, the farm girl gets caught Xifeng between the fronts of rival wizards and ultimately becomes the one who has to save the empire.

In addition to the Lord of the Rings series, Amazon also has the fantasy adaptations The Wheel of Time and Good Omens as in-house productions in its streaming offering.
