Amazon shared its investment plans in Turkey with the public in a statement made today. With the first logistics base in Turkey, which it aims to open in Istanbul in the autumn of 2022, Amazon plans to create employment for more than a thousand employees in a year. While an investment of over $100 million is planned for the new logistics base to be established, it is aimed to meet the recently increasing customer demand.

Launched in Turkey in 2018, Amazon.com.tr has not only offered millions of products to its customers with affordable prices and fast delivery options since its establishment, but has created employment for more than 500 people to date. While providing qualified employment in the region with the logistics base to be commissioned in Turkey in line with its long-term business strategies, Amazon will continue to provide fast and reliable delivery services to its customers.

Amazon will start the recruitment processes for center functions such as engineering, human resources, accounting, operations and information processing (IT) for the new FBA Base to be established in Tuzla, while recruitment for customer service and logistics teams will begin in the coming months. Amazon will continue to work with partners that already provide delivery services.

More than half of the products sold on the Amazon marketplace worldwide are sold by SMEs. Amazon has provided over 250 new services and applications with an investment of more than $18 billion to increase the efficiency and profitability of its affiliates. Improvements in operational processes offer SMEs, many of whom warehousing and shipping through FBA systems, the opportunity to deliver their products to hundreds of millions of customers around the world, as well as helping them grow their brands, increase sales, and create jobs.

Sharing his comments about Amazon’s investment in Turkey, Presidential Investment Office Chairman Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu said, “As we always emphasize, with its strong, durable and fast-growing economy, Turkey has a unique strategic location, production capabilities, wide talent pool, logistics infrastructure and liberal investment environment. Thanks to its advantages, it is in the focus of international investors. With this value proposition we have, we are a regional center for the activities of international investors in many fields such as R&D, design, production, logistics, education and management. The investment decision that will be Amazon’s first logistics base in Turkey, prioritizing sustainability and green transformation, and creating employment has been a concrete example of these discourses. This investment is very important for our e-commerce sector, which has gained great momentum in recent years, with our ever-developing logistics infrastructure under the leadership of our President, to further strengthen it in the domestic and export markets. As the Presidential Investment Office, we are pleased to share this investment decision with the public, which we have followed since the beginning of the process and supported by working closely with the Amazon team both in the field and in the bureaucratic processes. We would like to express our gratitude to the Amazon team, who trusted and invested in our country.”

Stefano Perego, Vice President of Operations at Amazon Europe, said, “While we are happy to open our first logistics base in Turkey in Istanbul, we would like to underline our trust in Turkey on this occasion. We are extremely excited about the more than a thousand new job opportunities we will create in our first year by providing a modern and safe working environment with satisfactory wages and benefits.”

Perego continued, “We offer career opportunities with diversity and inclusiveness for candidates with varying experience and educational backgrounds in the recruitment process.”

Security is at the heart of every operation Amazon performs. Amazon’s operations centers are designed as a work environment where employees feel safe. While eliminating security risks by proactively collecting and analyzing data, the company regularly makes new investments and developments to remove these risks. Amazon owes its successful performance in security to the determination and dedication of its operations staff, who overcome even the most complex problem every day with technology and science, and to the new applications that more than 8,000 security professionals have brought to the industry.

As part of its zero carbon emission commitment by 2040, Amazon continues its policy of meeting the heating and hot water needs of its new buildings, including the new logistics base in Istanbul, with 100% electrical energy. In this way, it is aimed to prevent the use of fossil fuels such as natural gas, which harm the nature. While all heating, ventilation and cooling systems in buildings are easily controlled by building management systems, waste of energy and a healthy working environment is created for employees.
