Amazon launches four new e-readers. The basic Kindle, Scribe and Paperwhite are thus entitled to nice improvements, while a first model with color screen is added to the catalog, the Colorsoft Signature Edition.
The e-reader is definitely a very practical tool. It allows you to carry several thousand books in your pocket to read them anywhere, day or night, by adapting the font size to your eyesight. Amazon is one of the major players in this market and has just announced the launch of several Kindle models in 2024, namely the basic Kindle, Scribe and Paperwhite, which are entitled to significant updates. Big news: Amazon is also launching the very first color Kindle, the Colosoft Signature Edition.
Amazon Kindle: improvements for the three classic models
The 2024 version of the basic Kindle is entitled to some improvements. It retains its 6-inch screen, weighs 158 grams and, above all, offers much better contrasts with a screen with a resolution of 330 ppi (pixels per inch, a unit which defines the density of points on the screen and therefore the fineness display). As a result, its brightness should be 25% brighter than models currently on the market and equal to that of the Paperwhite. It offers faster page changes, 16 GB internal storage and six weeks of battery life on a single charge. Offered in black and in a new matcha green color, it is available now for 110 euros with advertising and 120 euros without.
For its part, the new Kindle Paperwhite is also entitled to some minor improvements. Its screen goes from 6.8 to 7 inches, while the tablet becomes thinner. This also offers better contrast as well as 25% faster page changes, leading Amazon to declare that it is the fastest e-reader to date. It also benefits from better battery life of up to twelve weeks (three months) on a single charge, and is water resistant. It is offered in two storage options, 16 GB or 32 GB, and comes in six colors: black, metallic black, raspberry pink, metallic pink, jade green and metallic green. The 16 GB version is available for 170 euros with advertising and 180 euros without, and the 32 GB version, the Signature Edition, for 200 euros without advertising.
Finally, the Scribe model, which allows you to write on it with its stylus equipped with a new soft-tipped eraser, has a 300 ppi screen with new white corners surrounding it. This one was designed to mimic the feeling of writing on paper when using the Amazon Premium Pencil. One of the major innovations is the Active Canvas tool, which allows dynamic notes to be added to the pages of a book without disturbing the text, which adapts around them. A new feature should subsequently allow you to add notes to a sidebar, which can then be hidden. Finally, the e-reader benefits from a dose of AI to automatically summarize the pages. It will be available from December 4 for 430 euros.
Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition: Amazon’s first color e-reader
This year’s flagship model is the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, Amazon’s first color e-reader. It can thus display images, covers or highlighted text other than in black and white. In addition, it has a function to enlarge images without loss of quality and two color styles, standard and vibrant. It is water resistant, compatible with wireless charging, has eight weeks of battery life and offers automatic brightness adjustment. It will be available from October 30 for the modest sum of 300 euros.
Remember that Amazon offers an unlimited reading subscription service. In fact, with any purchase of a Kindle, the company offers three free months for its Kindle Unlimited service – which then costs 9.99 euros per month. Not all the books in the world are there, but there are still 35,000 books in French. For Prime subscribers, a loan service is also offered, allowing you to borrow one book per month with no return deadline.
