There are few films that encapsulate the glamorous Hollywood cinema of the 2000s as perfectly as Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The action comedy, released in 2005, was waiting wonderful nonsense which brought bits of the spy film to the screen with a wink. And then of course there are the stars.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is pure star cinema, led by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Almost two decades later, a new project with the same premise awaits us. This time, however, it is not a movie, but about a serieswhich was created exclusively for the streaming service Amazon Prime Video: Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Replacing Jolie and Pitt are Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Maya Erskine (Obi-Wan Kenobi). As Jane and John Smith, they plunge into an explosive adventure in which private and professional interests once again collide. The Contract killer couple has to deal with numerous opponents.

Next to Glover and Erskine, Mr. and Mrs. Smith drive one impressive line-up of guest stars on who stop by for individual episodes. From Parker Posey, Wagner Moura and Michaela Coel to John Turturro, Paul Dano and Alexander Skarsgård to Eiza González, Sarah Paulson and Sharon Horgan: Wow, what a cast!
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith series was created by Glover and Francesca Sloane, who previously worked together on the acclaimed dramedy Atlanta. Fleabag mastermind Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally supposed to be the one female lead take over. However, she turned her back on the project in September 2021.
When does Mr. & Mrs. Smith start on Amazon Prime?
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is one of the first big series that awaits us on Amazon Prime next year. All eight episodes of season 1 will be released on February 2, 2024 on the streaming service’s platform. The series adaptation of the material, which was announced at the beginning of 2021, was originally supposed to premiere in 2022.
