Amazon: hundreds of employees of the Prime Video and studios division have been fired in these hours

Amazon hundreds of employees of the Prime Video and studios

(Finance) – After the layoffs involving Amazon employees between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, as reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, Big Tech’s layoffs are not over yet: then these hours Amazon is laying off hundreds of employees from its Prime Video and studios division.
Was Mike Hopkins, who heads the streaming video and studios division, which includes the MGM unit acquired by the company last year, to announce the cuts in an email sent to employees, in which he writes “Over the last year, we have reviewed almost all aspects of our business with the goal of enhancing our ability to offer our global customers even more innovative films, television and live sports in a personalized and easy-to-use entertainment experience. As a result, we have identified the opportunities to reduce or stop investments in some areasinstead increasing investments and focusing on the content and product initiatives that have the greatest impact.”

Amazon made rolling layoffs totaling more than 27,000 employees in late 2022 and early 2023, with CEO Andy Jassy seeking to cut costs after rapidly expanding during the pandemic, including eliminating several projects conceived during the Jeff Bezos era. The previous layoffs mainly concerned the division responsible for the Alexa assistant. Now, however, Prime Video is being hit, which is the streaming service of the American giant, a very fierce competitor of Netflix.

Still on the video front (even if in this case it is live), in the last few hours it had emerged that the livestreaming service Twitch (owned by Amazon) was preparing to announce cuts to around 35% of its staff, or around 500 workers. These layoffs come amid concerns over Twitch’s losses and after several high-level executives left the company.
