With We Were Liars, Amazon has commissioned a new thriller series for young adult audiences. But not just any series, but a multifaceted youth series based on a book by E. Lockhart, which has it all.
Not just for Vampire Diaries fans: Amazon is filming the celebrated bestseller We Were Liars
After series such as Panic and Cruel Summer, which focused on exciting youth entertainment on Amazon Prime, and the success of the youth book film Der Sommer, als ich schön, the streaming service has found the next big project for young adult viewers, according to Deadline:

For the series adaptation, Amazon secured the rights to We Were Liars * and the later released prequel Family of Liars *. Vampire Diaries series creator Julie Plec is on board as the creative driving force, having expressed interest in an adaptation when the novel came out in 2014. She is also assisted by screenwriter Carina Adly McKenzie (The Originals).
Amazon’s next shocking hit: Why We Were Liars is so delightful
After the initial release, We Were Liars received many euphoric reviews. Literary book reviews praised the 250-page book as “perceptive” and at the same time as “engrossing, brutal and beautifully told”. In addition to the superbly constructed atmosphere, the Guardian was particularly impressed by the surprisingly dramatic final twist “nastier and more shocking than anything we could have imagined”, was. These are the best prerequisites for one “mysterious and addictive” Amazon series.
We Were Liars won the 2014 Goodreads Choice Award as a young adult novel and was the only young adult book to make Amazon’s 20 Best Books of the Year list. Now, ten years later, Amazon Prime is building on this success. As a series, We Were Liars is expected release in 2024.
