When you walk across the meadow, it is not immediately noticeable. Breeveen nature reserve is beautiful, there is peace and quiet, but traces of war? It’s hard for non-archaeologists to see from the area that gigantic amounts of ammunition were unloaded, fighter planes trained and the ground is a gold mine of lead and copper remains. Until, during your walk, you suddenly come across the stand of amateur archaeologist Jos Rams. “The number of people who know the stories from here well is ebbing,” says the enthusiastic narrator. “This area is full of memories and I love passing those stories on.”
