Sweden will play in the semi-finals of the WC 2023.
After Amanda Ilestedt scored another goal.
Now the Swedish centre-back can write powerful Swedish sports history.

Our Swedish soccer ladies continue to storm forward this WC summer. After three straight victories in the group stage, Blågult has now knocked out the world number one USA and also the successful team Japan on the way to the World Cup semi-finals.

Ilestedt’s success

The great goal queen has also unexpectedly become the centre-back Amanda Ilestedt who scored three goals in the group stage and found the back of the net again against Japan. The Swede has now scored a sensational four goals in this year’s WC tournament and is second in the overall scoring league.
– Yes, what is actually happening? Absolutely sick, absolutely sick… Incredibly happy that we won today!, says a euphoric goalscorer to Radiosporten after the final whistle.

Now two more matches await, regardless of how it goes, and then Ilestedt has the opportunity to write Swedish sports history in the most powerful way. She is only one goal short of the Swedish women’s record of five goals in a WC tournament, that did Lena Videkull in the WC 1991.
– My God – I’m happy as long as we win, but it’s nice that the goals are scored too, admits Ilestedt in the interview after the match.

Best ever

The truth is that Amanda Ilestedt can actually become the best Swedish goal scorer in a football World Cup ever on both the women’s and men’s side. Because even for the men, the record stands at five complete hits which Kenneth Andersson succeeded in the WC in 1994.

Two more goals are needed to take over as Swedish football’s leading World Cup goalscorer in one and the same tournament. But Ilestedt would rather focus on the team’s pursuit of medals than individual records for himself.
– I really hope that we can win future matches, it would have been so much fun, she says to the radio channel.
