The Alzheimer Society Huron Perth is hosting its annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s May 25.

The walk raises crucial funds that allow the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth to offer programs and services to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their caregivers in Huron and Perth counties. The number of people in Canada living with dementia is rising by 25,000 each year, the organization said, with more than 1.7-million people expected to be living with dementia in Canada by 2050.

As the number of people affected by dementia increases, so does the need for services.
“We’re calling on you to make connections matter and show your support by walking or donating towards a walk event in a community near you,” Alzheimer Society Huron Perth executive director Cathy Ritsema said. “The funds raised at the walk stay in Huron and Perth counties and provide crucial funds for the Alzheimer Society to continue to allow accessibility to programs and services for people affected by the challenges of dementia.”

The Alzheimer Society Huron Perth actively supports families and individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The society provides information, programs and support services to those affected, along with education to the community at minimal to no cost. It advocates for and contributes funding for research for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
Those interested in joining one of several walks in the region are asked to register as a team captain, team member or individual, share a fundraising page and reasons for walking on social media using the official hashtag #IGWalkForAlz and then reach out to friends, family , neighbors and colleagues for support.
Registration opens at 9 am and the walk starts at each location at 10 am The following are locations in Huron-Perth:
- Clinton – Central Huron secondary school
- Exeter – South Huron District high school
- Goderich – Goderich District collegiate institute
- Listowel – Between the Lines
- St. Marys–Solis Park
- Stratford–Upper Queen’s Park
- Wingham – Maitland River Community Church
