Alzheimer Society gears up for fundraiser

The Alzheimer Society of Brant Haldimand Norfolk, Hamilton Halton is urging people to get out and walk.

The society is holding its annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s fundraiser this month.
“This year, I’m encouraging participants to get out and walk every day in May to honor people living with dementia in our community,” Alison MacKenzie, community development officer at the Alzheimer Society, said in a media release.
“On May 28th, we will be holding the main event – our celebration of steps taken – at Lions Park in Jarvis. It has been a long two years; I’m really looking forward to seeing our families and supporters in-person.”
A report from 2010, estimates more than 2,500 people live with dementia in Haldimand and Norfolk. The report projects that number will grow by 33 per cent by 2030.
The funds raised from the walk support Alzheimer Society services available to people living with dementia and their care partners through dementia education, counseling services, and wellness activities.
People can participate in the walk in a variety of ways. For more information on how to support or take part in the fundraiser, contact the Alzheimer Society at www.alzda.ca or call 1-800-565-4614 ext. 514.
