Five years after the sensational success of the legendary Batman villain, the sequel, Joker 2: Folie à deux, has now been released in cinemas. After the predecessor already sparked controversial discussions, the sequel seems to be even more polarizing. Now has Joker 2 Congratulations from one of the best directors of film history receive.
Master director Francis Ford Coppola celebrates Joker 2
With classics like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, Francis Ford Coppola made some of the most important films ever. The old master has just brought his life’s work to the cinema with Megalopolis, which he had planned for decades.
Coppola has now commented very positively on Joker 2 with a post on Instagram:

Todd Phillips’ films continue to surprise me and I enjoy them very much. Since the wonderful Hangover he has always been one step ahead of the audience and never does what you expect. Congratulations to Joker: Folie à deux!
I’m also honored that the film’s cinematographer, Lawrence Sher, mentioned that the film is visually inspired by One From the Heart.
It’s not hard to see the parallels between Joker 2 and Coppola’s Megalopolis. Both films almost aggressively defy audience expectations and viewing habits and deliver idiosyncratic visions from filmmakers who circumvent conventions and surprise (in both positive and negative ways).
In his post, Coppola also mentions One From The Heart, which the director financed himself in the early 80s as a musical with elaborate studio sets. Since the film grossed less than a million dollars after its release, the director had to file for bankruptcy and was facing financial ruin.

Is Joker 3 coming?
Beware, spoilers!
The DC sequel is currently becoming a flop at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, Joker 2 only grossed around $121 million worldwide over its opening weekend. Since the film had a budget of around $200 million, he has to make over 400 million to be considered a success.
In the end, the second part of the DC saga will probably be far away from this number. This pretty much rules out Joker 3, but the last scene of the sequel clearly rejects another part anyway.
