Always limited to serial downloading one application at a time

Always limited to “serial” downloading, one application at a time, the Google Play Store will allow two applications to be installed simultaneously. A welcome and expected development, but which suffers from restrictions.

You can find absolutely everything in the Play Store, but the Google application store suffers from a serious drawback: it only allows you to download one application at a time. Additional applications tirelessly join a never-ending queue. A problem that particularly gets on your nerves when you know that the App Store allows you to install up to three applications simultaneously, and which is particularly felt when you configure your new smartphone and stamp your feet impatient at the idea of installing your favorite apps. Fortunately, as noted 9to5google, the Internet giant is correcting the weakness of the Play Store by now allowing two applications to be downloaded at the same time. A long-awaited development!

Google Play Store: a welcome but limited improvement

When installing two applications simultaneously, it is possible to follow the progress of downloads on the store and on the home screen. However, if it is possible to launch a third app, it will remain “on hold” until the installation of one of the other two is completed. Needless to say, it’s a shame. This is all the more so since this improvement only concerns new installations. In other words, it is not possible to install several application updates simultaneously, and the “Update all” button in the Play Store still only downloads one application at a time, which can create a long wait. Maybe in a future update, who knows?

9to5gooogle spotted this update on several Pixel smartphones and tablets running Android 14, with version 40.6.31 of the Play Store. It seems that Google is rolling it out in waves, as it usually does, and downloading applications simultaneously is therefore not yet accessible to everyone. A little patience, it shouldn’t take long!
