Alvinston area maple syrup festival canceled

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority’s popular annual Maple Syrup Festival, scheduled to take place on March 19 and 20 at the AW Campbell Conservation Area, has been cancelled.

Members of the SCRCA announced that uncertainty regarding the lifting of provincial COVID-19 restrictions prevented planning for this year’s festival.

“Due to the uncertainty around what COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted, and when those changes would come into effect, planning the event has been challenging,” said SCRCA Conservation Education co-ordinator Melissa Levi. “We have decided to hold off for another year to re-focus our efforts and host an event that would align with our visitors’ expectations.”

Each year the Maple Syrup Festival attracts anywhere between 800 and 1,000 people, and visitors receive guided demonstrations by interpretive staff regarding the importance of maple syrup to First Nations people and pioneers.

Along with the demonstrations, in past years the festival has also featured horse-drawn wagon rides, maple taffy tastings and full access to the AW Campbell Conservation Area hiking trails.

The SCRCA said it looks forward to holding the festival in 2023.
