Alvar Myhlback was not selected for the World Cup.
On Friday, he got his revenge – with his first senior victory.
– It was an extremely good start, says Myhlback in Expressen’s broadcast.
The biggest skiing talent, and a big talking point, right now is Alvar Myhlback. The only 17-year-old cross-country skier has impressed greatly during his short skiing career. Among other things with his eighth place in the Vasaloppet as a 16-year-old.
Myhlback nobbed
At last weekend’s Swedish premiere in Gällivare, Myhlback was again on everyone’s lips. This when he came third in the sprint, after an absolutely incredible final sprint where he drove past, among other things Calle Halfvarsson. The 17-year-old only had Marcus Grate and Edwin Anger forward into the goal.

But when the squad for this weekend’s World Cup premiere in Ruka was released, Myhlback was not one of the Swedish riders selected. The national team manager Anders Byström explained the decision by saying that Myhlback’s results were impressive for a 17-year-old, but not enough for a place in the World Cup.
Alvar’s revenge
On Friday, the World Cup premiere was held in the form of a sprint. Then not a single Swedish men’s skater made it to the semi-finals, even less the final.
At the same time in Idre, Myhlback won the sprint in the Ford Smart Energy cup. He took the lead early in the final, and held it there. In the end, the runner-up approached George Ersson and there was a dramatic final sprint, which Myhlback eventually won. It was the 17-year-old’s first victory at senior level.
– It was an extremely good start (at the competitions in Idre), and a bit of revenge from last weekend, so it was great fun, says Alvar in Expressen’s broadcast after the win.

It was unclear whether Myhlback would even line up in the sprint.
– The guy who told me “we’ll see if I do this sprint”. He didn’t believe that much, but he refuted it now, says the commentator Richard Olsson.
– I think I’ve said it many times, that I take the sprint as a bit of a bonus. But that’s when it usually goes best, so I don’t know. I must continue to have that attitude and sprint and it should go well, Myhlback answers later.
