Alvar Myhlback’s new goal after the great success at the Vasaloppet – the super talent admits: “It would be a dream”

Alvar Myhlback is Sweden’s biggest skiing talent right now.
The 17-year-old has won JVM gold and came third at the Vasaloppet.
Now he admits his next big goal for his skiing career.

Expectations have long been high for the Swedish super talent Alvar Myhlback. Already at the age of 16, he wrote Swedish sports history by becoming the youngest ever at the Vasaloppet and finishing in eighth place.

Myhlback’s success

At the beginning of this season, Myhlback made history again when he made his senior debut at the World Cup as a mere 17-year-old in Östersund. He has since raised the bar further by winning a completely superior JVM gold recently, in competition with juniors two years his senior.

Then he surprised everyone during the weekend that was, when the classic Vasaloppet was decided. Alvar Myhlback impressed tremendously with a strong third place in the nine-mile long race and was highly praised by skiing legend Petter Northug afterwards.
– That he can already withstand such races as today, in this one, for nine miles, shows that he is mentally strong, and is trained, very well trained, Northug said.
– He is a complete skier that the world has never seen before.

Alvar admits

Now the big question is what Myhlback, who competes in both cross-country skiing and long-distance running, has going on here next. The time after the Vasaloppet has mostly been about recovering the body.
– It has been good. You only did what you felt like doing and didn’t stress too much. But it is noticeable that the body has been exposed to something that you don’t do every day, says the teenager to SVT.

The super talent then reveals that the big goal is to compete in the World Cup at home in Falun. On March 15-17, he hopes to be on the starting line to square off with the world’s elite again.
– It’s a dream just to go here. Looks like good weather and to go here on home ground, it would have been – no matter how it goes – a dream, he admits to the TV channel.
