Alvar Myhlback won two JVM golds last year – this year he is plucked from the Swedish national team.
Now his team manager Anton Järnberg is speaking out about the association’s decision.
– He will be even more important now that he can focus completely on the team, precisely for the sake of the team it is positive, he says to the site Langd.se.
The Swedish great talent Alvar Myhlback18, will not compete in the JVM – despite winning two golds last year. He has invested more in long races this year, as well as taking the step to senior level in cross-country skiing. It has been tough for him.
Alvar Myhlback’s big disappointment
On Thursday, Sweden’s squad was presented to the JVM, then Myhlback’s name was not on the list of participants. He himself had assumed that he would participate in the competition and he had been looking forward to it.
– I can’t understand it. Obviously annoying as I would really like to join. It’s sad, he said himself at a press conference earlier this week.

The reason for the poke is that Alvar did not meet the requirements that the national team has for skaters who want to participate in various championships. They must compete in special selection competitions. Last week he ignored the qualifying competition in the Norwegian Bergforsen to run a long race in the Swiss Engadin instead.
“You have to have a result from our national junior cup and JVM test and the competitions in Bergeforsen are important. We establish our selection criteria for all selections before the season to give fair conditions to all active so that they know what it takes to get to the championship,” writes Linda Danvind Malmleader of the Swedish junior national team”, in an SMS to the news agency TT.
The team manager’s words about Alvar
What is bad news for Alvar personally is, on the other hand, good news for his long-distance team Lager 157 Ski Team. He will now be able to represent them in more competitions than expected. The team manager Anton Jarnberg have spoken with the site Langd.se.
– Alvar has been clear that he wants to go to JVM. In that way, it’s boring for him. On the other hand, he is a super important cog for us. He will be even more important now that he can focus completely on the team, precisely for the sake of the team it is positive, he says.

He is surprised that the ski association could not deviate from its rules and principles to bring Sweden’s greatest skiing talent.
– The ski association has gone clean after what they originally said. We had a belief and a hope that you could look at sporting performance and capacity. But they choose not to do that, he says.
