Alvar Myhlback’s first words about the poke in the Swedish A national team – now admits after the great criticism: “I was shocked”

He is one of the skiing world’s biggest talents.
But still, Alvar Myhlback was snubbed in the Swedish A national team.
Now the 18-year-old is breaking the silence about the decision, which has received a lot of criticism.

Young Alvar Myhlback has long been predicted to have a bright future in cross-country skiing. But last season he took his talent to a whole new level in the skiing world.

Myhlback’s success

The 18-year-old won double JVM gold, took a sensational third place in the Vasaloppet and made his senior debut at the World Cup. Recently, he also made the final decision to invest in traditional cross-country skiing instead of long-distance skiing, where the big goal is to reach the World Ski Championships in 2025 in Trondheim.

But still, everyone was surprised when the Swedish national ski team announced the A-squad for the coming season and the super talent Myhlback’s name was not even included. Instead, he got a place in the blue-and-yellow junior national team for the coming season.

Swedish criticism

The national team’s unexpected decision aroused great criticism among many Swedes. But now the truth is being revealed about why one of Swedish skiing’s most promising names was poked.
– We have agreed on an arrangement that we believe will work very well, both from my side and the national team. I am very satisfied with the outcome, says Alvar Myhlback to Expressen with his first words after the announcement.

Alvar will get a tailored arrangement, where he belongs to the junior national team but will train with the A national team. There will also be room to continue training with his long-distance team.
– Getting to train with those who still ride better than me, just like in Lager 157 where I trained with the fastest riders in the world. I notice that it will be something different than if you have to do it on your own, says Alvar to the evening newspaper.
– So there is much that is attractive about this arrangement, that I get to practice traditional skiing with some of the best in the world.

Alvar Myhlback does not see it as strange at all that he is selected for the junior national team instead of the A national team.
– I did not expect a place in the A national team. I was almost a little shocked that so many people believed in it, explains the 18-year-old in the interview.
– I don’t know if it’s about the hopes for me or the A national team. I am always a little shocked that there is so much writing.
