Alvar Myhlback had his big breakthrough at senior level last year.
Now he is one of the Swedes most feared by Johannes Hösflot Kläbo himself.
– As long as he trains and develops steadily, he can probably be as good as he wants, says the Norwegian to SVT Sport.
He broke through big last year, the then 17-year-old Alvar Myhlback from Bjursås in Dalarna. As early as 2022, he took the SM silver in the sprint and last year he was granted a dispensation to be the youngest ever to get the chance in the Vasaloppet – where he came eighth. This year he came third in the same race. Alvar has also picked up gold medals in the Junior WC as recently as last winter.
Kläbo: “It will definitely be difficult”
Alvar Myhlback is truly the big future name of Swedish cross-country skiing on the men’s side. Together with Edwin Anger22, and William Poromaa23, he is challenging in the long term to become one of the best in the world. Even now, when he is only 18 years old, he is expected to be able to stand for top performances during the World Cup season. Maybe even in the WC in Trondheim in February.
The biggest name in the sport among the men is still the Norwegian Johannes Hösflot Kläbo27. He has done all the pre-season training in Utah, USA, to prepare for the new season. He already has a strong feeling for which Swedish skaters will give him a challenge this season.
– I’m betting on Poromaa, he will definitely be difficult. And Calle (Halfvarsson) I hope for. Then it will be exciting to see Alvar if he will take the next step. It will be exciting to see, he tells SVT Sport.
This is what you really want to hear
It is clearly difficult to speculate on how good the young Alvar Myhlback can be. Nor do you want to put too much pressure on such a young person’s shoulders. But according to Kläbo, there is really no limit to what the 18-year-old can achieve in the future.
Myhlback has already shown what he can do. Hopefully we’ll see some of that this winter as well when he’s really in and challenging the seniors. Johannes Hösflot Kläbo’s statement about the competitor bodes well in any case – the Norwegian says what all Swedes want to hear, that he still sees Myhlback as a potential challenger.

– It’s hard to say, but as long as he trains and develops steadily, he can probably be as good as he wants. It will be exciting to see. It’s just a matter of him doing things the right way. But he’s been a professional for a long time already, so it’s probably not a concern. So over time he becomes someone you have to beat, says Kläbo.
Great to hear that Kläbo feels that he has skaters, especially Swedes, who push him a little. He won’t have it easy this winter. Cheers Poromaa, Halfvarsson, Anger and Myhlback!
