17-year-old Alvar Myhlback is predicted to have a brilliant future.
Now he can beat Petter Northug’s 17-year-old record.
Swedish cross-country skiing on the men’s side has been faded for a long time. But now the winds of optimism are beginning to blow for our blue-yellow men’s skiers in the skiing world.
Poromaa’s success
It was William Poromaa who broke the long medal drought last winter when he salvaged a much-anticipated WC bronze in Planica. Now he can take further steps next season and compete seriously in the World Cup.

But from below also comes a blue-yellow super talent who is ready to step onto the big international stage. “The greatest talent I’ve seen,” says the Norwegian skiing king Peter Northug described the 17-year-old Alvar Myhlback.
Time for Myhlback
Big words to live up to, but it is also a truly unique great talent who is now getting ready for the World Cup. Last season, the teenager chose to invest in long-distance running and became historic in the Vasaloppet with a very nice eighth place.

Through the long races, Myhlback has managed to build a relationship with the Norwegian legend Northug.
– It’s great fun and inspiring, I’ve talked to him several times now. There is a lot to learn from him and he always shares thoughts and ideas. I think it’s been super fun and inspiring, says the 17-year-old to Radiosporten.
– He comes up with lots of little tips before every race. Just being able to talk to him is very rewarding in itself.

Alvar Myhlback can also beat Petter Northug’s 17-year-old record as the youngest World Cup winner in cross-country skiing. The Norwegian was 20 years old when he achieved the feat of becoming the youngest to win a race at the World Cup.
– Yes, it is clear that it is possible. Everything is possible. But we’ll see, it’s not something I go and think about. I am 17 years old now and there are many World Cup competitions left before I turn 20.
