He is seen as the world’s greatest talent in the skiing world.
And has also been praised to the skies by Petter Northug.
Now Alvar Myhlback responds to the praise and admits what he really thinks of the controversial Norwegian.

Everyone’s talking about 17-year-olds Alvar Myhlback. The Swedish big talent is predicted to have his big breakthrough this season and has already made a record debut at the World Cup.

Myhlback’s success

The young cross-country skier got the world’s eyes on him already last season when he was given a dispensation to compete in the Vasaloppet because he was too young. And then responded by finishing a very impressive eighth place as a 16-year-old.

Now he has been given the chance in the Swedish A national team and his debut at the World Cup came in Gällivare last weekend. Then it was a 37th place in the very first World Cup race.
– It’s nice that I now have a result to compare with. Now I want to do better, says Myhlback in an interview with the news agency TT.
– I don’t see myself as part of the national team yet. If you get to go to a lot of World Cups, you might as well join the gang. It would have been a long-term dream to be there.

Northug’s Tribute

The 17-year-old has huge expectations for himself and if you ask the Norwegian legend Peter Northug so Alvar will make history in cross-country skiing. The controversial Norwegian believes the Swede will break the record as the youngest winner of a World Cup race of all time.

Northug currently holds the record of 20 years and 61 days, but sees it as seriously threatened in the future.
– He (Myhlback) can handle that. He is the hottest candidate to do so. It will be exciting to follow. At least it’s worth it if he does, because he’s so aggressive and fearless. Time goes by fast too, but he can win World Cup races already next year if everything falls into place, Northug admits to Norwegian NTB.

Myhlback and Northug have developed a close relationship and mutual respect for each other after they competed against each other in long races last year.
– I always hear that he praises me when I talk to the media. It’s really fun. Always when you hear something from Petter, it’s fun, you get hooked. We talk a little from time to time, says Alvar in the interview with TT, revealing what he really thinks about the controversial Norwegian.
– He was my big idol, and still is. He is the king, says the 17-year-old.
