Lapuan’s Virkia won the fifth quarter-final match against Pori’s Pesäkarhuja with clear scores.

Lapu Virkiä secured their place in the semifinals of the women’s Superpesis as the fourth team.

The semifinal series between Virkiä and Pori’s Pesäkarhuje was only decided in the fifth meeting, where Virkiä was better in periods 2–0 (7–2, 7–2).

Home team Lapua had a sharp start to the match. The team immediately took the lead in the first inning Janette Lepistön and Riina Kerolan with batting runs, and there was more to come in the following innings.

Päsäkarhut got a run in the second inning with a free hit, but otherwise the team’s interior play was tight.

At the beginning of the second period, Pesäkarhut managed to score a run right in the first inning, when Tiia Peltonen returned home Johanna Pirskanenbut the team didn’t get to enjoy their lead for long.

Immediately after Virkiä’s equaliser, Janette Lepistö shouted at the home crowd by shaking the ball from the back through the kunnar and worth three other runs. The reigning Finnish champion Pesäkarhut could not answer this.

Virki will face Seinäjoki’s Maila-Jussit in the semi-finals. In the second pair of matches, Manse PP and Jyväskylä Kirittäret meet.

The first semi-final matches are scheduled for Tuesday, August 20.
