The days when M. Night Shyamalan was considered a fallen directorial prodigy are long gone. After his blockbuster failure in the early 2010s, he continued his career with several really nasty horror thrillers brought back into shape. Most recently he thrilled people with mindfuck stories like Old and Knock at the Cabin.
Shyamalan’s next film is already in the starting blocks. With Trap he could deliver one of the most exciting films of the year. The initial situation sounds perfect. And then there is another special feature: In contrast to many other Shyamalan films, which have a twist at the end, there is this Twist here right at the beginning.

Horror thriller highlight 2024: First trailer for Trap by M. Night Shyamalan with Josh Hartnett as a serial killer

Josh Hartnett, who recently starred in a small supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb film Oppenheimer, takes on the role in Trap role of a father, who heads to his concert with his daughter Jody (Ariel Donoghue). Countless fans are looking forward to the appearance of pop star Lady Raven (Saleka).
But then something unexpected happens: heavily armed emergency services surround the concert building. A serial killer known as The Butcher has chosen the event as the site of his next bloodbath, as Hartnett’s character learns from an employee at the sold-out arena. The thing is: Hartnett himself plays the killer.
That definitely sounds like an exciting premise. Incidentally, Saleka, the actress who plays Lady Raven, is Shyamalan’s own daughter, who is known in the USA as R&B singer-songwriter is known. She worked with her father on, among other things, the Apple series Servant and the aforementioned film Old.
New horror thriller: When does Trap start in the cinema?
Trap starts on August 1, 2024 in German cinemas. It’s not the only film from the Shyamalan family that awaits us this year. Ishana Night Shyamalan, another Shyamalan daughter, will make her directorial debut with They See You on June 13, 2024. As a second unit director she was involved in Old and Knock at the Cabin. She also directed six and wrote ten episodes of the series Servant.
