About ten days since Lords of the Fallen hit the market and the game is already a huge success. In a press release sent by CI Games, we learn that the title has already sold more than 1 million copies across the globe. Enough to reassure the studio and the investors who believed in this ambitious project, supported by Unreal Engine 5, and who will therefore continue to invest more, since other projects of the same caliber are planned. “Lords of the Fallen is the most important and ambitious game we have developed in the last 20 years, and the first in a slate of triple-A titles planned for years to come.” announces Marek Tyminski, CEO of CI Games, before adding: “Seeing a game with such an innovative take on the action-RPG genre reach one million sales in just ten days has been humbling for everyone at HEXWORKS and CI Games.” Now that the commercial success is there, we must now manage to put out the various fires which have spread here and there due to the technical problems which marred the launch of the game. But the developers of HEXWORKS assure that they are working hard to deploy a series of patches to improve performance and introduce some additions along the way, such as new gameplay mechanics, a revamped New Game Plus mode and crossplay between the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, available now. Crossplay between consoles and PC will be reactivated during an expansion patch next Thursday.
40 MILLION BUDGET
At the same time, during a shareholder conference, CI Games revealed that the development of Lords of the Fallen cost a whopping 40 million euros, the largest amount released by the studio. These 40 million production costs have not been counted for expenses related to marketing (18.2 million euros), the production of the physical version of the game (4.8 million euros) and the royalties due to Epic Games for the use of Unreal Engine 5. In total, CI Games therefore dropped 63 million euros which already seem to have been amortized with the million copies sold in 10 days. A nice success then.
