She wanted to test equipment and feel for the real comeback in the World Cup next weekend in St Moritz – this almost six years since she last competed at that level.
– I got a cheer as if I was competing and I think it felt stable. I left a little in the tank even though I pushed harder than in a normal training ride, says 40-year-old Vonn.
Last weekend she rode a couple of speed races under Fi’s auspices at a lower level than the World Cup in Copper Mountain, Colorado.
Cornelia Hütter historic winner
For the first time, the ladies ran a downhill race on the dreaded “Birds of Prey” hill in Beaver Creek, USA. Austria’s Cornelia Hütter became the first historic women’s downhill winner to bathe in sunshine.
– At the first inspection I thought: “Are you kidding me? It’s so steep. What the hell am I doing here?” I have never ridden such a steep course before. But the experience was fantastic, says Hütter according to AP.
Goggia considered quitting this summer
Runner-up Sofia Goggia made a comeback after the accident when she broke her leg in February. She then led the downhill cup only to see Hütter slip past and win that cup in the final event of the season.
– This summer I was really close to quitting. It would have been so perfect to win today. But I had some misses in the lower part of the hill. I’m really happy with my comeback. I had a good race, but I think I rode at 80 percent of my potential, says the Italian who was 16 hundredths behind Hütter at the finish.
Reigning overall World Cup winner Lara Gut-Behrami was third in the race.
