Alpine skiing legend Hirschers comeback season ended with a knee

Marcel Hirscher returned to the World Cup this season in the colors of his mother’s country of birth, Holland.

The Austrian big name in alpine skiing by Marcel Hirscher the return season ended with a knee injury sustained in training, reported the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung. Hirscher himself confirmed on his Instagram account that his season is over.

Hirscher shared a video of his giant slalom practice in Reiteralm, Austria, on Instagram. The video ends with a painful scream as Hirscher loses control of his bill. Hirscher underwent surgery on Monday.

– My last bill of the season. What I have left is a love for counting. Thank you all for your support, Hirscher wrote along with the video.

Hirscher, 35, ended his alpine skiing career in 2019 as a two-time Olympic champion, seven-time world champion and eight-time overall winner of the men’s World Cup. He returned to the World Cup for this season in the colors of his mother’s native Holland, but the return matches went to the bottom.

Hirscher was 23rd in Sölden’s giant slalom. In Levi’s slalom, he qualified from the second round, and in Gurgli, Austria, the slalom race ended with an interruption in the opening round.
