Alpine skier fell violently – put into a coma

Tereza Nova fell violently in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Czech alpine skier Tereza Nova has been induced into a coma, said the Czech Ski Federation on Saturday. Nova, 26, fell violently in Germany’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Friday during practice for the Women’s Skydiving World Cup.

Nova is in a hospital in Murnau, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He underwent surgery to relieve brain swelling and will be kept in a coma for as long as doctors say is necessary, according to the Czech Ski Federation.

In Garmisch, the skydiving world cup race was held on Saturday, which was won by Italy Federica Brignone. Czech team speed skating star Ester Ledecka did not participate in the race.

– Tereza is in our thoughts. We wish him a speedy recovery and much, much strength, the representative of the Czech Federation told the Czech newspaper Sport.
