Alpha test of a hope for the MMORPG genre suffers from problems, ends earlier than planned

The second alpha test for Corepunk took place recently. However, due to serious technical problems, proper testing was hardly possible. The developers pulled the ripcord and ended the alpha earlier than planned.

How exactly did Alpha 2 go? The latest test phase of Corepunk got off to a false start. Due to technical problems, the alpha was reset, several delays and emergency maintenance were carried out. Initially, it was said that access to the servers would therefore be extended until June 4, 2024.

Yesterday, on June 1, 2024, the developers announced that they had decided to end the alpha early. Apparently they were unable to get the stability problems and connection interruptions under control. In addition, there were a large number of critical bugs. Around 15,000 interested parties are said to have taken part in the test.

What do the developers take away from the alpha? A comprehensive analysis by the developers has been published on the MMORPG’s official website. It states that the test enabled them to collect a large amount of important feedback and identify critical errors.

In the post, those responsible also comment on the criticism of some testers regarding the use of AI voiceovers. They are a medium-sized indie studio and cannot currently afford to invest their limited resources in real voice actors.

The use of AI is therefore an option, the devs continue, to still be able to present voiced dialogues and ultimately finalize a version of Corepunk in a timely manner that will enable the studio to survive in the current market situation. This, in turn, is the basis for eventually having the money to pay professional speakers.

The style of Corepunk is reminiscent of League of Legends.

Coming soon to Early Access despite problems?

What do the developers say about the start of Early Access? There is no specific date, but Early Access should start as soon as possible. Firstly, because the developers have already been working on the MMORPG for ten years and have bills to pay.

On the other hand, despite all the problems, the latest test is said to have shown how efficient it is to receive feedback from numerous players, which can be immediately converted into bug fixes and updates. The speed of iterations increases many times over. In addition, the income from the sale of the Early Access version should noticeably increase the pace of development.

First, another alpha test is planned. Details will be available next week.

What kind of game is Corepunk? Corepunk is a top-down MMORPG with an open world. Visually and in terms of controls, it is reminiscent of League of Legends. At the same time, however, it is a classic MMORPG, which, according to the developers, is reminiscent of WoW Classic in terms of difficulty.

Six classes with a total of 18 different specializations await you in the game. Dungeons and raids that are said to be comparable to Mythic (the highest difficulty level in WoW). There is also PvE content in the open world, which is, however, equipped with a fog of war that hides content out of sight.

You can learn various crafting professions, but each character can only master one perfectly. The best recipes are also hidden, so you should know the players on your server who are best at each profession.

PvP will also be available in certain areas of the open world and in arenas. 1v1 and 2v2 deathmatch arenas and rankings are planned. Incidentally, the alpha test in November 2023 was anything but smooth: New MMORPG summarizes first test with over 100 players: “Were too difficult and punishing”
