With our correspondent in Warsaw, Sarah Bakaloglou

Of the 17 scientists and doctors making up this Medical Council to the government, thirteen announced their resignation on Friday.

Over time, we have observed with growing frustration the impossibility for politicians to put in place optimal solutions “, they denounced, also criticizing the growing tolerance in the ranks of the government and among civil servants towards those who deny the existence of the Covid and the anti-vaccines.

Because if the government encourages vaccination, its measures are considered to be quite insufficient, in a country where for the moment only 57% of the population is fully vaccinated and where the number of deaths is one of the highest in the world compared to to the number of inhabitants (for countries that have passed the 100,000 death mark).

As early as last summer, the Scientific Council had recommended compulsory vaccination for medical personnel. It will finally come into force only on March 1st.

In addition, a few days ago, the Council had asked for the resignation of a senior official for Education, who had decreed on the radio to be against the obligation of vaccination, vaccines being according to her still ” experimental and with unknown consequences “.

Faced with the Omicron wave that is arriving in Poland, the Scientific Council has urged the urgent extension of vaccination coverage, especially among those over 60 years of age.

While the Ministry of Health warned of the next wave of Covid-19 this month, the Omicron variant currently represents 10% of contaminations.
