Real Steel: A film sequel failed, but there’s a series for that

After the great financial success of Real Steel, a sequel was actually obvious. Because with production costs of 110 million US dollars, the blockbuster was able to gross almost 300 million worldwide and another Oscar nomination for the visual effects. Both Jackman and director Shawn Levy, who are personal friends, advocated for a sequel. At the end but it failed because of love of all things to the project.

Because at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival, Levy revealed that he and Jackman had been looking for the film for three and a half years correct script but would only make the film if the plot and character development offered something new. So far they have only ever found one of them in the books (via Collider). The success of the first film should not be due to one inferior sequel be diminished. And now, after 13 years, it seems as if they no longer exist either.

That’s what fans can do look forward to a series, which will be released on Disney+. Shawn Levy will be on board as a producer. It’s unclear whether Hugh Jackman will play a role, as no new information has emerged since Levy spoke about the project in another interview with Collider in December 2022. There Levy said:

It is located in a very active and promising development. I’m really excited about the ideas we’re exploring. But as you can see from my reserved words, I can’t say anything about the author or the timing yet.

So it remains to be seen whether Levy will find a material that suits him this time requirements becomes. At least the development sounds further ahead than a few years ago. But Levy has already kept a promise. Three years ago, the director told Comic Book that he was his good friends Jackman and Ryan Reynolds definitely want to bring together on screen. We can see what that looks like in July 2024 when Deadpool 3 is released.
