This evening the journey on ZDFneo takes us from the White House to the pigsty. The public broadcaster shows five films in a row that feature action, quick gangster sayings and a cast of stars. A total of almost 10 hours of entertainment awaits you, staged by star directors such as John McTiernan, Roland Emmerich and Guy Ritchie.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Denzel Washington can be seen on ZDFneo this evening
It starts at 8:15 p.m. with Last Action Hero from 1993in which Arnold Schwarzenegger pokes fun at his image as an action god. The film by Die Hard director John McTiernan and co-writer Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) was a flop at the time, but today enjoys cult status thanks to its crazy story and great dialogue. Schwarzenegger also considers the role to be one of his underrated.
This is followed by White House Down (2013) Riot cinema by Roland Emmerich, which also has a Die Hard connection. Because if you’ve always wanted to know what “Die Hard in the White House” would look like, you’ll find your answer in the actioner with Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum (or in the twin film Olympus Has Fallen).
In terms of quality, things go uphill with Guy Ritchie’s gangster film Snatch – Pigs and Diamonds (2001)which features Jason Statham and Brad Pitt, among others. The original is followed by the imitator, Paul McGuigans Lucky #Slevin (2006)which incorporates its Ritchie and Tarantino influences with a strong cast including Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett and Lucy Liu as well as a stylish production.
Finally, Gladiator II star Denzel Washington appears in Baltasar Kormákurs 2 guns (2013) plays an undercover agent who clashes with another undercover agent (Mark Wahlberg) over a mountain of money.
