The popular Allan Svensson passed away after a period of illness, his family confirms to the newspaper.
In an interview with Hänt a few years ago, Allan Svensson said that he had moved to a nursing home just outside Stockholm.
– I live here permanently. I suffer from memory loss, he explained at the time.
Versatile career in Swedish entertainment
He broke through to the general public in the role of Gustav Svensson in the popular comedy series “Svensson, Svensson”, where he played a small-town postman and father of two. The series made him one of Sweden’s most beloved actors and established his place in Swedish television history.
Svensson has also had significant roles in productions such as the drama series Hedebyborna and the detective series Maria Wern.
An honored colleague
The director Edward af Sillén has worked with Svensson in several productions, one of the most famous of which is “Så som i himmelen” from 2004. He remembers his friend fondly in an interview with SVT Nyheter on Sunday evening.
– He was a very nice colleague. It was so important to Allan that it always turned out well, and he got mad at himself if it didn’t. It was both touching and funny, says the director.
Even SVT’s CEO Anne Lagercrantz remembers him with reverence.
– Allan Svensson is forever a part of SVT’s Christmas. His portrayal of the hopeless, choleric and loving Gustav in Svensson, Svensson is nothing short of a classic. He was also in two other of SVT’s most popular TV dramas: Hedebyborna and Tre kärlekar. Now we miss him, but he is forever part of SVT’s memory, she says.
Career as a voice actor
He has also made himself known as a voice actor. Among his most noted voice roles is Hagrid in the Swedish dubbing of the “Harry Potter” films. In addition to that, he has appeared in animated classics such as “Superhältarna”, where he portrayed Mr. Incredible, and the films about “Asterix and Obelix”, where he lent his voice to Obelix.
