What are spotlight hours? Every Tuesday, Pokémon GO hosts a one-hour short event that focuses on a specific monster. This then spawns felt at every corner in the game.

There will be 5 of these limelight hours again in August. The respective monsters are accompanied by a special bonus that will be active for the duration of the event. We have summarized below what exactly awaits you and when it will take place.

All dates of the limelight hours in August 2023

When do the spotlight hours run? The limelight hours always run on Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can catch the following monsters in the coming weeks:

Spotlight Hour on August 1st

Which Pokémon is the focus? The fire Pokémon Vulpix awaits you at the first limelight hour in August. It comes from the first generation of games and can be further developed into Vulnona. In addition, it also possesses an Ice-type Alola form. However, this will not be caught during the Limelight Hour.

What bonuses are active? During the hour-long event, not only can you find wild Vulpix everywhere, but you can also earn double XP by evolving Pokémon.

Is the event worth it? Vulpix and its further development are less convincing in raids and in the GO battle league. The event is therefore primarily worthwhile for trainers who want to collect a few more XP. So if you’ve been wanting to develop some monsters for a while, this event is the perfect time.

Can you catch Shiny Vulpix? Yes, with a bit of luck you will come across a dazzling specimen. You can recognize it by its golden yellow appearance.

Spotlight Hour on August 8th

Which Pokémon is the focus? The second Spotlight session of August brings you encounters with the first generation Bug and Grass-type Pokémon, Paras. It can be evolved into Parasek.

What bonuses are active? During the event, you’ll get double Stardust for every Pokémon you catch.

Is the event worth it? Paras and Parasek aren’t particularly strong either. Still, you shouldn’t miss this spotlight hour. Paras is one of the 22 Pokémon that generally bring you more Stardust.

So, in combination with the Stardust bonus from the event, you can get at least 1,000 Stardust per catch during the Spotlight Hour. With the use of star pieces or optimal weather conditions, this can even be significantly more.

Can you catch Shiny Paras? Yes, Paras can be caught as Shiny in game for a long time. His body is then a little darker than normal.

Spotlight Hour on August 15th

Which Pokémon is the focus? At the third Spotlight Hour, you can encounter the tomboy Pokémon Velursi. The Pokémon of the types Normal and Fighting from the 7th generation of games can be further developed into Kosturso.

What bonuses are active? You will also be rewarded for catching Pokémon during this spotlight hour. You will get double XP.

Is the event worth it? Kosturso is a solid fighting Pokémon, but it falls short of the best attackers in Pokémon GO. And there are better candidates in the GO Battle League as well. However, if you are on your way to level 50, you should not miss the XP bonus.

Can you catch Shiny Velursi? Yes! You can recognize the iridescent Velursi by a yellow body.

Spotlight Hour on August 22nd

Which Pokémon is the focus? Bluzuk awaits you at the penultimate limelight hour in August. The first generation Pokemon belongs to the Bug and Poison types. You can evolve it into Omot.

What bonuses are active? During Spotlight Hour, not only can you catch tons of Bluzuk, but you’ll also get double the Candy for catching Pokémon.

Is the event worth it? In raids and the GO battle league, Bluzuk and its further development are not really convincing. The bonus is particularly interesting here. You don’t necessarily have to use this for Bluzuk, you can instead do raids or ignite the Wunderbox.

Can you catch Shiny Bluzuk? Bluzuk can also be caught as Shiny. You can recognize it by its striking blue eyes.

Spotlight Hour on August 29th

Which Pokémon is the focus? At the end of the month, you can expect another spotlight hour with the water and poison Pokémon Tentacha. You can develop this into Tentoxa.

What bonuses are active? During the short event, you will receive double candies when sending Pokémon.

Is the event worth it? Tentacha and its further development are not particularly strong. Only in the Hyperliga of the GO Battle League does Tentoxa play in the midfield with a move set of Poison Slash, Boiling Water and Blizzard.

So the event is worthwhile mainly because of the candy bonus. This is particularly useful because the global GO Fest is running the weekend before. So it can be worth picking up monsters that still need candies and only sending them at spotlight hour.

Can you catch Shiny Tentacha? Yes, Shiny Tentacha is active in-game and, if you’re lucky, can also be found during Spotlight Hour. You can recognize it by its purple body.
