Why getting into the literary Grishaverse is worth it after Netflix’s Shadow and Bone

Even infrequent readers should not be put off by the long list of Shadow and Bone books, because the fantasy novels are not long. Golden Flames, for example, has only 350 pages and facilitates a quick introduction to the world created by Leigh Bardugo. Four reasons particularly recommend reading even after watching the Netflix series Shadow and Bone:

    Netflix

Don’t be put off by the wall of Shadow and Bone books

First: Who, while watching the Netflix series, despite the explanatory dictionary of Shadow and Bone terms from the Complexity of the Grishaverse was fascinated but overwhelmed, the novels introduce Entherzer, Durasts, Kraftmehrer, Drüskelle and Co. more slowly and deeply. A deep understanding of the world is guaranteed (also thanks to the Shadow and Bone map and Grisha overview).

Secondly: Leigh Bardugo’s writing style has a knack for it catchy characters to create, all of which are flawed, but only get more depth and loveliness as a result. For example, you can get to know the crows even better and, parallel to Shadow and Bone season 2, you can understand even better why Kaz always wears gloves.

The Crows have their very own Grishaverse books

Third: The wait for Shadow and Bone season 3 and the crow spin-off series on Netflix will be quite a while. The Curb impatience However, readers can easily do so by learning about the further course of the story on paper (or with Kindle and eBook readers) and cheering for it. Because yes: there is still big things to come, much of which was already hinted at at the end of Season 2 for those familiar with the template.

Fourth: For book fans, it’s fascinating how the Netflix series makes some big, some subtle changes, while respecting the template and making small adjustments to improve the story in the visual medium: one exciting study for serial narration sort of. Once you’ve read the novels, the Season 1 rewatch will be twice as fun afterwards.
